b/c its like talking to them they can do it all day actually my dog's bark did go hoarse. I brought him to the vet and she said dogs can lose their voice just like humans, but is rare. I am watching or I should say listening for bark to return if not I have to bring him back in and she said they will start running tests. I am hoping for the best!
Hoarseness in a dog can be a symptom of hypothyroidism (low thyroid). Simple blood test to check the thyroid - very inexpensive disease to treat. My Golden Retriever developed hypothyroidism a year ago. She was sleeping all the time, had trouble getting up, and her bark was hoarse.
Other reasons a dog may sound hoarse: upper respiratory infection, dry throat from barking excessively, neoplasia of the throat.
excessive barking may be the cause of this, but if this doesn't sound like your dog, you might want to have him/her checked for kennel cough. it isn't that serious and can be treated however, but i would still have your dog checked out as soon as possible.
