Assuming its your computer / network and not a website somebody is hosting for you. First step is to let your ISP know, who will (or should) begin tracing the attack. They will trace it back to the attackers ISP and inform them that one of their customers is abusing his connection by hacking. It's then up to that ISP to punish the hacker. Again local laws are all taken into account, do he might just loose his connection or he could go to jail.

If you have a static IP address get it changed. Again your isp does this for you. If your on a static the attacker will just waltz back into your machine as he pleases... so get yourself a new IP.

The next step is to get yourself a copy of ghostwall. This is a very powerfull and free....firewall. You can make this as secure or insecure as you want. Just Google for ghostwall and it should be the first one there.

Next you want to do all your windows updates. Ok. People always, myself included, keep putting off updates. Do them and check for new ones every couple of weeks. They are vital.

After you have done all that there isn't much more you can do really. And to be honest even when you contact your ISP and get the ball moving, very often there is nothing really done to hackers. They usually get off, its only when they hack somebody who has alot of money and a serious attitude problem that anything is ever done about it.

Its a very long tedious and costly procedure in tracking and prosecuting hackers and to top it there are hundreds of attacks being pulled off every day that its very hard to prosecute.

For example: even when they trace it to a particular computer, they cant pinpoint who was at the computer. Was it the older brother, the younger brother, the cousin or one of their mates???? And if the connection goes to a wireless router than they might aswell just forget about it altogether.
