You can bring a helmet. Athena was well known for her owl. She was often pictured as holding it. She also had a serpent that appeared with her in many pictures and sculptures. Athena was also know for carrying the Aegis, a small shield (sometimes said to belong to Zeus). The shield is sometimes said to be made of goatskin, or to have the face and serpent hair of a gorgon on it's front side.
Use your imagination.
It depends on the use. If it is found during the play (and not part of a warrior/night outfit) then it is a prop. If it is used to show a person/s occupation or used only as a costume piece, then it is a costume.
You can find what you want at the local costume shop, or perhaps an online costume seller.

As a goddess of war, yes Athena could use a sword.

The set is anything on the stage, whether it begins there or is brought there, that is not a costume piece or a prop. A costume piece is anything worn by an actor. A prop is anything that an actor may use, generally anything they pick up. Some things can fall into an awkward gray area. A chair for example would be considered a set piece if the actors only sit on them, but a prop if an actor were to pick it up and use it as a weapon say.
Some household items you could use to create a Cheshire Cat costume are a lot of purple material, and a cat tail. It is very simple to create a Cheshire Cat costume.
