The euro was launched in France on Jan. 1, 2001. The franc was phased out during the year 2001 when both the euro and the franc could be used. From Jan. 1, 2002, the euro remained as the only French currency.

France introduced the Euro in Jan 2001 and phased out the French Franc during the same year. On Jan. 1, 2002, the Euro was the only legal currency.
One euro is one euro, even in the USA, but it's harder to spend because we use the US Dollar. (1 euro = 1.23 dollars, if you want to exchange it, but the rate changes daily). The Euro is $1.337US as of 2:27PM CT Jan 3, 2011.
France started using Euros on Jan. 1, 2001. Throughout the year 2001 the Franc could still be used, as well as the Euro. From Jan. 1, 2002, the only legal currency accepted in France was the Euro.

The exchange rate was 6.95557 francs for one Euro. It was a fixed rate which never varied from the introduction of the Euro (Jan 1, 2001), to the withdrawal of the Franc (Jan 1, 2002) and until the end of the last exchange operation in early 2012.
