I tend to believe that the 2 dropped were the onlyassembled fission bombs in US stockpile when they were dropped, but parts for more were ready to assemble. Probably bombing could have resumed at a rate of almost 2 per week by the end of august if Japan had not surrendered.
I know for certain that the entire US stockpile in 1946 at the start of operation Crossroads was exactly 6 fission bombs. Crossroads exploded 2 of those, reducing the US stockpile to only 4 fission bombs.
