The Islamic Hijri Calendar (Lunar Calendar) began after the migration of Rasoolullaah (saws) from Makkah to Madeena. The systematic distribution of the Islamic months started after that. Ramadan or Ramazaan is the 9th Islamic month of 30 days of Fasting. This does not mean that Rasoolullaah (saws) never used to fast before that. He did fast even before that.
Raman is the name of the 9th month of Hijra calendar, as September is the 9th month of the calendar you follow. It does not come from any where. The Muslims follow the Hijri Calendar based on the movement of the Moon. Ramadhan is the 9th month of the Hijri calendar. It starts with the citing of the moon. The Muslims keep fast, do extra worship, do more acts of kindness and piety, purge their sins, avoid sinful activities, beg forgiveness, and offer a special prayer of Traveeh at night. They help the poor and the needy.
