Christopher Columbus received funding for his journey from Spain. After initially being turned down by several European monarchs, he secured support from King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. They provided him with ships and a crew, enabling his expedition across the Atlantic in 1492. This sponsorship ultimately led to the discovery of the Americas.
When Christopher Columbus discovered it on Sunday 3rd November 1493 he gave it the name Dominica for the Lords Day.
