The Statue of Liberty is a neo-classical statue that is located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The statue was designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and was a gift to the people of the United State from the people of France as a symbol of friendship and to commemorate U.S. independence from Great Britain.
The statue was dedicated on October 28th, 1886, though it was originally intended to be given as a centennial gift for 1876.
