The Florin (Two Shillings) was a coin of the old redundant British predecimal coinage system.
The coin may have come from any of the 50 plus British Empire/Commonwealth countries.
If it is a British coin, there will be no country name on the coin, otherwise the coin will indicate the country of origin.
Assuming you have a British florin you have a coin that is 50% silver and in low grade would sell for ~$5 in silver scrap. In higher grades the price runs about $15-20 and in the absolute best uncirculated grades up to $100 or so. It isn't a particularly rare year though.
The first British Florin was issued in 1849, so it is unlikely that there would be a Half Florin coin minted any earlier. There was never a British coin called a Half Florin. If one existed, a Half Florin would be One Shilling.
A modified coin would be valueless. Any value would be associated with the necklace.
Such a coin does not exist. The British Florin (Two Shillings) was reintroduced into the currency in 1848 as a tentative step towards decimalisation, a Florin being one tenth of a Pound.

Such a coin does not exist. The modern silver Florin (Two Shillings) was reintroduced into the currency in 1848 during Queen Victorias reign as a tentative step towards decimalisation (One Florin = one tenth of a Pound).

The origin of the term "Florin" comes from Florence, Italy, in the mid-13th century where a gold coin called a "Fiorino d'oro" was used. Many other European countries also used a similarly named coin. England issued a gold Florin coin of three shillings at about this time, but it did not last very long. In 1848, the British Government decided to initiate steps towards a decimal currency, and so the modern Florin, being one tenth of a Pound (or two shillings), came into being. The coin was called a Florin, its value was two shillings. The earlier Florins actually had "One Tenth of a Pound" inscribed on the coin. From about 1893, the coins had "One Florin" inscribed on them. From 1937, the inscription changed to "Two Shillings" until decimalisation.
If the coin has the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM above Liberty's Head it's a Morgan dollar and the value is $14.00-$19.00 for a circulated coin. If the coin has the word Liberty above her head it's a Peace dollar and the value for a circulated coins $80.00-$175.00 Both coins are dated 1921
From your description the coin is a 1921 Morgan dollar and it's the most common of all Morgan dollars. Values are $16.00-$19.00 retail depending on the condition of the coin.
