No..The Russians launched "Sputnik" into space on October 4th, 1957 before anyone else got into space.
Russia was the first to launch a satellite into space, this satellite was called Sputnick.
Yes sputnik was released in October, 1957
The Soviet launch of the Sputnik satellite.
In 1960 the "space race" began between the US and Soviets. Both worked to get to the moon first and in 1969 the US landed on the moon. The Soviets never have landed. The space race was just another outcome of the Cold War. The ability to launch a rocket has military advantages whether it has a payload for space or for military uses.
There was the Space Race and the Cold War, all of which the US won. The Soviet Union did accomplish many firsts in space such as the first ever launching of a satellite, but as the race neared it's end, US technicians and scientists were working feverishly on a spacecraft that would be successful in taking the first ever humans to the moon. Basing the whole Space Race on that, you could say that the US has won the Space Race. Onto the Cold War, the Soviet Union spent too much money on weapons technology, producing the MiGs you see in the sky today but doing so made the economy an unbalanced infrastructure and the whole Soviet Union just collapsed, due to lack of economical stability. Funny, the Soviet Union needed to spend most of its money to KEEP UP with the US while the US still retained a well-balanced economy and succeeded in bringing about the best weapons, aircraft, and ships today!
There was already a war launched in the west. The British were fighting the Germans.
That would surely depend on who managed to launch the first nuclear missles!! Otherwise, despite being British I would think it would be the US. Although I believe the British Forces are better fighters, the US has a population 4 times greater than Britain so has more men/women at their disposal. Would also depend on where fighting was taking place i.e on who's terratory.
No. The first satellite to be launched into space was Sputnik, launched by the Soviet Union in 1957.
The first country to launch a satellite into space was Russia, under the Soviet Union. The satellite was 'Sputnik 1'. It was launched into an elliptical low Earth orbit on 4 October 1957. It's launch sparked a crisis within the US which precipitated the space race during the Cold War.
Actually, the US did not launch the first space satellite. The former USSR did, in 1957, launching Sputnik-I. The US followed in 1958 with Explorer 1, formally, Satellite 1958 Alpha. Dwight D. Eisenhower was president at that time.
The first rocket the US sent up into space was the Jupiter C launch vehicle and its payload was Explorer 1 the first American Satellite.

Sputnik, the first rocket into space many things to do with space: they got the first person into space the first satellite to launch into space the first orbit around the earth the first living being into space the first woman into space etc.
That capability indicate that the US was well behind in the Space Race.
A new chapter in US space flight began in July 1950 with the launch of the first rocket, Bumper 2, from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was created on October 1, 1958.Other notable first flights include the following:Jan 1958 - US launched its first Earth satellite, Explorer 1Dec 1958 - US launched the first communications satellite SCORE into space.April 1960 - US launched the first weather satellite, TIROS-1
Who tried first isn't known, but the then Soviet Union were the first to succeed in getting a satellite into orbit
No. The USSR was the first to launch any kind of space craft with the launch of "Sputnik 1" in 1957. The US was the first to send a man to the moon in 1969 with the Apollo 11 mission
It didn't "scare" the US, they already had a satellite planned, a much more capable one. They just didn't rush to get it launched first.
The first rocket to reach "space" was a German V-2 (the A4 rocket weapon) launched during World War II. According to test records, the first rocket to reach "space" was likely the fourth test launch on October 3, 1942. The first USSR (Russian) space satellite was Sputnik 1 in 1957, followed by the first US space satellite, Explorer 1, in 1958.
