Carolus Linnaeus, also known as Carl Linnaeus or Carl von Linné was born in 1707 in Stenbrohult, southern Sweden. In 1727 he attended the University of Lund (Sweden) and in 1735 he moved to the Netherlands where he completed his medical degree at the University of Harderwijk. In 1741, following botanical expeditions to Lapland and Europe, and three years in Stockholm (where he practised medicine, specifically the treatment of syphilis), Linnaeus moved back to Sweden to take up professorship at Uppsala University. n 1758 he bought the manor estate of Hammarby, outside Uppsala, where he lived until his death in 1778.
Carolus Linnaeus real name is Carl Linnaeus. There is no real reason why he changed his name however he does get confused with his son whose name is Carolus Linnaeus the Younger. He also went by the name of Von Linne when he was ennobled in 1761.
