Many people were affected because most had their homes swept away or completely destroyed, some watched the community suffer, most lost loved ones, community was greatly destroyed, almost all the people were left with nothing and heaps of buildings etc. were destroyed.
The Tsunami was caused by an oceanic plate (Indo-Australian Plate) and a continental plate (Eurasian plate) sub ducting under one and other in this case the oceanic plate went under the continental plate. The Oceanic plate eventually built up so much pressure that it sprung back up, Causing a massive earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0-9.3. The sea floor shifted by 15m, this caused a displacement in the water making the tsunami form.
a lot of people were effected by the tsunami but mainly tourists and people who worked around the cost line.
