Suffolk County. Suffolk County is by far the largest county on Long Island, taking up all but the western end of the island.

The other counties on Long Island are Nassau County, and Kings County and Queens County. The last two are better known as Brooklyn and Queens, two of the five boroughs of New York City (each borough is also a county in state government).

Glen Oaks is in the New York City borough of Queens, bordering on Nassau County, Long Island. The two western counties of Long Island, which are Kings (Brooklyn) and Queens, are part of New York City, and the two eastern counties, which are Nassau and Suffolk are not part of New York City and are what just about everyone means when they refer to Long Island.

Is New York City a long city?

No, Long Island is not a city, or a county, or a borough. Long Island is a geographical expression that has no meaning in state government. That is to say, the term, "Long Island," is an unofficial name that collectively describes the entire island and all the towns, cities and counties that are on it. In other words, Long Island is nothing more than an island. Long Island is made up of four counties: Kings County, Queens County, Nassau County and Suffolk County. Two of these counties, Kings and Queens, are also boroughs of New York City. The borough of Brooklyn is also Kings County, and the borough of Queens is also Queens County. The other two counties -- Nassau and Suffolk -- are part of New York State, but not part of New York City. However, the term, "Long Island," is often used colloquially to describe only the part of Long Island that is not part of New York City (Nassau and Suffolk County). Even though Brooklyn and Queens (Kings and Queens Counties) are on Long Island, people -- especially New Yorkers -- often say, "I'm going to Long Island this weekend," when they really mean, "I'm going to somewhere on either Nassau or Suffolk County." If they were going to Brooklyn or Queens, then they'd say, "I'm going to Brooklyn/Queens," not, "I'm going to Long Island."

Where do queens New York and long island New York meet?

Queens is a borough in the city of New York. Long Island is the name of the island that Queens to the North and Brooklyn to the South are on. Queens and Brooklyn are on the Western end of Long Island. Nassau and Suffolk are other counties on Long Island. For some people, Queens and Brooklyn are not apart of Long Island, (they consider New York City to be separate from Long Island), but, they are on the western part of the island.

Where is the Nassau county located?

Nassau County is on Long Island. Long Island is divided into four counties. Two of them -- Kings and Queens Counties -- are also boroughs of New York City (Brooklyn and Queens, respectively). The other two -- Nassau and Suffolk Counties -- are part of New York State, but not part of New York City. Brooklyn and Queens (Kings and Queens Counties) are on the western end of Long Island, and Suffolk County takes up the entire eastern half (it is by far the largest of the four counties). Nassau County is sandwiched between Brooklyn and Queens and Suffolk County.

Is Queens and Brooklyn part of Long Island in New York State?

Geographically speaking, yes. The actual geographic landmass that is Long Island consists of Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties. Brooklyn and Queens, though, are also boroughs in New York City, which leads many people to think of "Long Island" as being just Nassau and Suffolk. If you say you're going to "Long Island", people generally assume you mean Nassau or Suffolk because Brooklyn and Queens are part of "the city". It's a little confusing if you're not from the area. Hope this helps.
