This will vary slightly I have noticed with nursing schools, however the general rule it seems for nursing school prerequisites will include anatomy and physiology I and II, microbiology, usually some sort of chemistry class, some psychology classes as well as one or two college level English classes. Most schools also require a college level algebra class to be completed. A lot of times you have to have a certain GPA in these classes in order to be accepted. These requirements also will vary depending on which state you live in. Some nursing schools are harder to get in than others and require a larger amount of prerequisites. Your best bet is to call your school of choice and ask them what they require before the admissions process begins!

Can prerequisites be taken while taking nursing courses online to finish sooner?

If the nursing courses require prerequisites, you must complete them before entering the professional phase nursing courses. There are many individuals entering the nursing field today. In comparison to the number who enter, very few actually graduate because of the intensity of the program. The prerequisite coursework is for a reason; To prepare students for the professional phase. Thus, nursing schools are extremely strict and students must follow the prescribed curriculum. I would suggest you not be concerned about how to finish sooner; you will have enough to do just to complete the program successfully.

Yes, you do NOT need any experience in the field of nursing to go to nursing school. However, all nursing school's require different undergrad prerequisites and there is most always a GPA requirement. After you have selected a nursing school you'd like to aim for, make an appointment with an adviser in the program or look on-line for the school's Nursing Degree Plan. On the plan the required prerequisites should be listed. In selected nursing school prerequisite classes you will need to earn either an A or B to be seriously considered for acceptance into the program.

Do undergraduates get to choose their first year college schedules?

There is some lead way when registering for the first semester, however it may also depend on your major, and prerequisite coursework you must consider. For example, if their are courses within the second semester that require prerequisites, then you must take those prerequisites within the first semester, especially in the areas of English and math. Other courses may also require English composition be completed first. In some schools it might be literature, communication courses, etc. Your academic adviser at the college or university will be able to guide you appropriately.

What business courses should i take first?

You should complete the core courses first. These courses will give you a foundation for all other upper level courses. Many upper level courses require prerequisites and you cannot enroll in the course without having completed the core course. Students are expected to undertake the core courses in the equivalent of their first year and if they are failed, those courses will need to be repeated in the first semester in which they are next offered.

How long will it take to get an associate's degree in nursing?

Typically, the associates degree is designed as a two year program of study as a full-time student provided the student takes the degree as prescribed by the college. However, because of the intensity of a program in nursing, and the prerequisites required, this program of study will usually take longer. I would say approximately two and a half to three years to complete if all goes well. It is strongly recommended that the student completes all general education courses (especially the science courses) first before going on to the professional phase courses in nursing. It is a very intensive program, so when a student moves into the professional phase, nursing should be the only subject matter to concentrate on.

How does anatomy and physiology fit into a nursing degree?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "fit into a nursing degree." Still, human anatomy and physiology are required in every nursing program. Some institutions require these two courses be completed before entry into the professional phase nursing courses. Some schools offer the courses as human anatomy and physiology I and II (each in two consecutive semesters, while others prefer one full semester for anatomy, and one full semester for physiology.
