That depends on how far back you want to look. "Prehistoric times" can refer to any time before that start of recorded history. If you go back a few hundred thousand years you would find many animals much like we have now, but with the addition of animals such as the mammoth, the woolly rhinoceros, and perhaps even lions. If you went back a hundred million years you would have found dinosaurs roaming the land. If you went back five hundred millions years you would find a variety of invertebrates and perhaps some primitive fish swimming in what was then part of the ocean.
