ford uses several diesel engines, but in the light duty trucks, they are all international/ navistar engines
In a 1978 Ford Mustang II : There were ( 3 ) engines available depending on the model : A 2.3 liter / 140 cubic inch four cylinder A 2.8 liter / 171 cubic inch V6 and A 5.0 liter / 302 cubic inch V8 ( non High Output )
Ford IS NOT putting Cummins in their trucks. Chrysler Corporation and Cummins Diesel Engines, Inc. just signed a multi-year contract to keep Cummins engines in Dodge Ram Heavy Duty trucks. You can get a Cummins diesel in a Ford F-650 or Ford F-750. The F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 all have the Powerstroke diesel engines.
The development of Cummins engines and the establishment of the company has nothing to do with Ford. As for using their engines, yes, Ford has used Cummins engines, in some of their medium duty trucks (currently represented by the F650 and F750... the F450 and F550 are also medium duty, but the Cummins engines were never available for those... the heavy duty market, Ford gave up in 1997 and sold to Daimler A.G., who put the trucks into production under the Sterling name.
the 240 cubic inch and 300 cubic inch straight 6 cylinder engines the 302 cubic inch V8 and I believe the 360 cubic inch V8
The pickups won't.. the F650/F750 already use them.
The F-250 and larger trucks can have diesel engines in them.
On a ( 1978 ) Ford 302 cubic inch V8 engine : It has Electronic Ignition , so there are no points
The Ford Motor Company never bought Cummins, Inc. That said, Ford has used Cummins engines in some of its trucks.
1976 was the last year for the Ford 360 ( 5.9 liter ) in the Ford trucks and my information goes back to 1968 and the 360 cubic inch is listed in 1968 for the Ford trucks
1974-1978, 1979-1998 (trucks only)
