Anubis frequently traveled the Duat (underworld).
Duat was an underworld, land dwelt by Osiris and visited by Re every night. It was a gloomy place of many tests not only for the Sun god, but for souls too. Many of them were connected to knowledge about Duat's inhabitants because "if you know a name of [evil] thing, it won't be a danger for you anymore". If a soul passed, it would go for the last test -- heart's weighing.

Duat wasn't a god. Duat was sort of like the underworld, where all things go in death, where they are banished, and where gods are imprisoned. You could also travel in the Duat, but only in the shallow parts. The deeper you went, the more dangerous the creatures there were. And you could store things in the Duat, but sometimes you couldn't get them back. Duat was like the opposite of good, it was like chaos.
