There are over 60 species of kangaroo and threats to these animals depends largly upon the species.

Large kangaroos such as the grey and red kangaroos suffer threats such as culling and habitat loss in some areas. By far the biggest threat is cars and trucks. Travelling on any rural, outback or even urban fringe road, one sees many kangaroo and wallaby carcasses along the side of the road.

Apart from habitat loss, the biggest danger to rock wallabies comes in the form of wedge-tailed eagles and other Birds of Prey. Rock wallabies often sun themselves on rocky ledges, where they become easy prey for large carnivorous birds.

Many of the smaller, lesser-known species of kangaroos suffer from the competition to their food source caused by the introduction of rabbits and livestock.
