To celebrate the date of the US's independence.
I bet July forth
1776 with the declaration of independence. To get it down to an exact date, think fireworks. July 4, 1776
Forth Of July or 4/7
Generaly with 4th of July, the fireworks are post-poned to a later date. With Halloween, it normally is "on with the show" or outright cancled.
Thomas Jefferson (who wrote that the Declaration of Independence in 1776) said that the date should be celebrated with fireworks. So I would think fireworks were first used in July 4 1776 or so after the first Independence day.
Here in Hutchinson they start selling them on the 28th but fof some reason you cant light them until July 1st
