Walt Disney World was built after Walt Disney died (December 15, 1966). It opened October 1, 1971 and was made possible through the hard work of his older brother Roy Disney.
Walt Disney died before he had a chance to work on the Florida Project. After his death his brother Roy built the Magic Kingdom as part of Disney World in his memory. It opened it's gates October 1, 1972.
Walt Disney was alive for Disneyland in California. Actual construction lasted over a year, although he was planning it for years before that. It opened in July of 1955.

∙ 8y agoWell, Walt Disney World opened on October 1, 1971, but Mr. Disney did not live long enough to see Walt Disney World completed. However, he did spend a lot of time in Disneyland, which opened in 1955. Technically, there isn't a specific day or year when he invented it. It took place over many years!
Walt Disney first started planning Disney World in the early 1960's. He died in 1966 and the company chose to continue his plans. Disney World -- Magic Kingdom, Contemporary Hotel, and Polynesian -- opened in 1971. EPCOT opened in 1982, Studios in 1989, and Animal Kingdom in 1998.
