Pearl Harbor is in Hawaii and was bombed by the Japanese on December 7th 1941. The above is true, and the Japanese thought they had caught all the U.S. ships in the harbor, but most were out to sea. Unfortunately several ships were bombed and sunk with heavy casualties.

In all, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor crippled or destroyed nearly 20 American ships and more than 300 airplanes. Dry docks and airfields were likewise destroyed. Most important, 2,403 sailors, soldiers and civilians were killed and about 1,000 people were wounded.
Three ships were damaged beyond repair. The battleships USS Arizona and USS Oklahoma were destroyed. The USS Utah, an old battleship which the US Navy used for target practice, was mistaken for an aircraft carrier and sunk by Japanese planes.

The Japanese bombed ALL they ships that they could at Pearl Harbor. All 8 Battleships were damaged- 2 of them- the Oklahoma and Arizona- were destroyed. 3 Cruisers, 4 Destroyers, 1 Minelayer and 5 auxillary vessels were damaged.
Land was not destroyed at Pearl Harbor. The bombs destroyed buildings and shore facilities. They sank many ships and destroyed aircraft on the ground. They were unable to destroy the facilities used to repair the ships, which proved a major factor moving forward in the war.
The Japanese failed to destroy any of the aircraft carriers. While many of the smaller ships were destroyed, only one battleship was eliminated. The USS Arizona remains at the bottom of the harbor.
Several ships were in Pearl Harbor on the morning of 7 December, 1941. All of them were attacked and they all experienced significant damage. The Japanese military had destroyed the U.S. military presence in the Pacific. That had been their intent. Japan wanted to be undeterred as they marched across the islands of the Pacific. The USS Arizona was just one of the many ships that was destroyed that day. The Arizona became a symbol of the destruction that took place that day and the lives that were taken.
