I'm sure most of them are open daily, at least for some length of time. Answer 2: Well, the usual thing is to be closed on Mondays. In Paris some are closed Mondays and others on Tuesdays.

Actually, not all of them do. It really seems to vary, depending on the city and the museum's location. As for why some close on Mondays, it has to do with attendance. For whatever reason, museum attendance seems to be lightest on Mondays; so some museums save money by remaining closed on that day, in order to be open on days when more people will attend.
