No epidemic has a "day" that it started and I believe you have the wrong year listed in your question. The major U.S. yellow fever epidemic occurred in 1793 and the first probable outbreak of the disease was in 1648 in Yucutan, where the illness was termed xekik (black vomit).

At least 25 major outbreaks followed, such as in Philadelphia 1793, where several thousand people died and the American administration as well as George Washington had to flee the city. Yellow fever epidemics in North America caused some 100,000-150,000 deaths. Major outbreaks also occurred in Europe, e.g. in 1821 in Barcelona with several thousand victims. In 1878, about 20,000 people died in an epidemic in the Mississippi River Valley and the last major outbreak in the US occurred in 1905 in New Orleans.

Is yellow fever in the US?

From CDC.gov website:Why is yellow fever not found in the United States presently? Has it not occurred in the past? The last yellow fever epidemic in the United States occurred in New Orleans in 1905.Yellow fever is primarily transmitted by Aedes aegyptimosquitoes. This particular type of mosquito is currently only found in the southern United States. For yellow fever to be introduced into the country, someone who is very recently infected with yellow fever has to visit or live in a location inhabited by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Then, that person has to be bitten by an Aedes aegypti mosquito that then bites and infects another person. This would have to happen many times for an outbreak of yellow fever to occur.Low occurrence of yellow fever world wide makes the introduction of yellow fever into the U.S. less likely. Additionally, many Americans are able to use preventative measures and secure their homes with tight fitting screens and air conditioning to prevent their exposure to mosquitoes.

Why Eliza's last name never mentioned in the Fever 1793?

Eliza's last name is not mentioned in "Fever 1793" because the author, Laurie Halse Anderson, chose not to include it in the story. This might have been a deliberate decision to focus more on the characters, their actions, and the historical events of the yellow fever epidemic, rather than on their full names.

How did yellow fever begin?

The origins of yellow fever most likely lie in Africa. It is thought that the virus originated in East or Central Africa and spread from there to West Africa. Many people believe that it initially was a fairly harmless virus that lived in monkeys and mosquitoes and it was only the arrival of Europeans at the dawn of the slave trade that caused the virus to jump into humans and thus spread to other continents.
