Whit Monday, also known as Pentecost Monday, is celebrated the day after Pentecost, which occurs 50 days after Easter. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and marks the end of the Easter season in the Christian liturgical calendar. Traditionally, it has been a day for church services and community gatherings, often featuring outdoor festivities and processions. In some countries, it is also recognized as a public holiday.

Despite previous historical interpretation, Boxing Day became a Bank Holiday named in the Bank Holidays Act of 1871. The other days were, Easter Monday, Whit Monday and the First Monday in August. With reference to the Banking and Financial Dealings Act of 1971, the August Bank Holiday was changed to the end of the month and Whit Monday was replaced by the Late Spring Bank Holiday, fixed as the last Monday in May
