John's Gospel sought to draw a parallel between Jesus and the paschal lamb, so moves the Passover to Saturday. It omits the Passover meal and, although Jesus was still crucified on Friday, it was the day of preparation for the Passover (John 19:14: "And it was the preparation of the passover ..."
