Unlike other important points in history that have an image associated with them, the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger doesn't have a single photo taken by a single photographer associate with it. There were many photos of the same event. This is because there were thousands of people viewing the launch that day, and many members of the press. Additionally, NASA has dozens (now hundreds) of movie and still cameras recording launches from many angles.
It was not officially broadcast live in British schools because it was at the end of the day. Despite this I was watched it live in school at the time because I was doing after school activities.
there was actually 7 people aboard the challenger on the day of January 28,1986. Many people believe that all 7 people aboard the challenger were vaporized instantly. However, this is not the case. the people aboard the challenger were actually shot up to 65,000 altitude in the space shuttle when it arched back and plumeted towards the ocean. while falling 3 of the 7 emergency oxygen's were activated meaning at least 3 were conscience during their decent to death.
