Currently all programs are Master's Degree programs. Previously (decades ago) Nurse Anesthesia was a certificate. Those practicing under this were grandfathered and do not need to get their Master's. There are not many left. Long answer short, a Master's degree. There is a movement to make it a doctorate which is probably 7 to 10 years away.

What kind of classes do you have to take to become a nurse anesthetist?

Answer
In order to become a nurse anesthetist, one must first obtain a
bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of
nursing. The classes required for a BSN satisfy the entry
requirements for most nurse anesthesia programs. Next, the
applicant must work as a Registered Nurse for a minimum of one year
in an acute care setting (ICU or critical care experience is
preferred, if not required). The average student admitted to a
nurse anesthesia program has 5 to 7 years nursing experience. Some
nurse anesthesia programs require the applicant to take the GRE
prior to admission. Nurse anesthesia programs range from 27 to 36
months in length and graduates hold a masters degree.
