A human, or any other warm-blooded animal, makes its own blood out of water, nutrients, proteins, and so forth. This blood is made in the bones (marrow) and some is made in the spleen. The blood, carrying lots of needed oxygen, is moved to all the tissues in the body within long, thin tubes called blood vessels. The heart pumps the blood so that it keeps moving around and around through the tissues and the lungs where the blood gets more fresh oxygen to move out to the tissues.
