Plasma is the yellowish fluid and is the main component of the blood. It constitutes about 55% by volume of the blood.

Compostion:water 90%

dissolved substances(solutes) 10%

the dissolved substances(solute) can be further divided into six other categories:

  • Inorganic Ions or Mineral Ions:

together they make about 0.9% of plasma by weight and more than two third of this amount is NaCl.

  • Organic Nutrients:

they include lactic acid,cholesterol,fats,glucose etc

  • The Gases:

the gases such as CO2 and O2 are also present in plasma

  • Hormones:

All the hormones are present in the blood plasma

  • Plasma Proteins:

the plasma proteins like fibrinogen, antibodies etc are also the part of -plasma.They constitute about 7-9% by weight of plasma.

  • Nitrogenous Waste Products:

urea and small amounts of uric acid are also present in plasma
