That is a very good question

What did Abraham Isaac Jacob and Joseph have in common?

Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph connect directly to Noah and ethhaadam (whom you call Adam)

They are the direct blood line to Christ….

You will observe Satan's first attempt to destroy the blood line to Christ in Genesis 3, where he attacked Eve.. our Father being much wiser than Satan simply answered that call with a dual pregnancy (Superfecundation as it's called). Eve therefore having one son of Satan (Cain) and one son of Adam (Able). You will not find Cain in the Genealogy of Adam.

In Genesis 6 you will observe Satan and his band of fallen angels attacking again the blood line of Adam via the daughters of Adam. However you will also discover that there were two of those daughters who were not successfully attacked (Noah's mother and his wife), our Father was about to destroy all flesh mankind until he found Noah, who was perfect in his generations (genesis 6)

Noah was perfect in his generations to Adam. That chain from Adam to Noah to Abraham to Isaac to Jacob (Israel) to Joseph, remains perfect and unbroken. Remember Adam was formed on the 8th day (after the 7th day of Rest), as the man to till the soil (Farmer). Adam and his offspring were never meant to be of 6th day creation. Christ came from a woman of the tribe of Levi (first chapters of Luke) who was of the daughters of Aaron (priest line). There is a direct and unbroken chain of genealogy between Mary and Adam.

Knowing these historical facts, who did our Father make his covenant with?

Genesis 17, our Father made his covenant with Abraham

17 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

Our Father is specific about the Covenant passing to Isaac.... not Ishmael

19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.

The Covenant passes to Ephraim son of Joseph

In Genesis 48 you see that same covenant being passed to Joseph son Ephraim by his Grandfather (Jacob - Israel)

16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head.

18 And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.

19 And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.

Take comfort that our Father is on the Throne and in control and knows exactly what he is doing.

Jewish answer: They were all superlative servants of God.

They all faced adversity.

They all lived, chronologically speaking, at the outset of Jewish (Israelite) history, and they were before Moses.

They are all spoken of at length in the Book of Genesis.

They all lived in consecutive generations (father, son, grandson, great-grandson).

Why is the story of Joseph the longest one in Genesis?

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob laid the general foundations of the Israelite nation, but it was Joseph and his brothers who actually began the detailed events of Israelite history. However, in a sense your Question may be inaccurate, since a few of the chapters toward the end of Genesis are either about Jacob (not Joseph), or are about both Jacob and Joseph, or are about Joseph's brothers.See also:More about Abraham, Isaac and JacobMore about Joseph

What was Joseph's covenant with God in Genesis?

Abraham made a covenant with God; and God swore also to Isaac and Jacob that He would uphold the covenant of Abraham with them too. For Joseph, no such statement or covenant was made.
