What did Bartolomeau use to travel?

Bartolomeau used a caravel because they could go fast and they could be maneuvered really well. The explores used a caravel most of the time in case a storm appeared. In one case were Bartolomeau went out into the sea to explore the "great unknown" (that's what I call it) a storm appeared but the caravel turned south of Bartolomeau's path, after acouple of days the storm died out and Bartolomeau sailed the way that he thought of the way back to were he was. But he was wrong he ended up on the Mossel Bay and he met some natives there. The natives thought that Dia's was a alien so they through rocks at him to protect them selves. One of Dia's men shot and killed one of the natives. All of the natives ran with everything that they had, so Dia's could not get to know them. But after all that Dia's left on his caravel and sailed away.
