They Modernized it and also helped get educated. and improved their economy, by 1890 their national wealth was increasing at rates similar to those of the United States and twice those of Britain.

Britain initially colonised Australia, meanng that the first settlement began as a result of Briatin sending its convicts and officers to New South Wales to establish a new colony. This action did not help the idigenous people of Australia in the least, but as far as expansion of the British Empire was concerned, it was a desirable outcome.

It was the convicts who literally biult Australia, while British laws, culture and religion made up the foundation of the first settlement.

the outposts in Australia were originally colony's established by the British. This meant that the British ruled them. however as these colony's became bigger and able to support themselves, the people that made up these colony's also demanded a greater say in their political affair's. The way the British political system works is that the head of state The queen has no say in what decisions are made politically. This is all settled by the lower house then passed by the upper house and finally passed into law with the blessing of the monarch. Australia has this relationship with Britain so Britain really plays no part in ruling Australia other then symbolical through a Governor general that is an Australian selected by the Australian government. Australians have been loath to change the system because it seems to work well, Australia being one of the lucky country's to have enjoyed a stable and democratic system of government for over one hundred years. Many Australians have foreign backgrounds and come fro dysfunctional political back grounds so they are more likely to ant to leave things as they are rather then risking political turmoil by changing the system.
