Captain Cook did not travel directly to Australia. He left Plymouth, England, in August 1768 and reached Australia in April 1770. On the way, he stopped at Tahiti to observe the transit of Venus (his main mission), then stopped at New Zealand for many months of exploration and mapping before seeking the "unknown continent" further west.
Lieutenant James Cook (not yet a captain) took less than two years to reach Australia from England. On the way, he spent some time observing the transit of Venus from Tahiti, and also circumnavigating the main islands of New Zealand.

No. To begin with, Cook did not "find" Australia. the continent had been discovered over 150 years before Cook sailed. Also, there was no way to send a letter from an unsettled region. England only heard of Cook's charting of the east coast once Cook returned to England.
In 1770 James Cook named the eastern half of Australia as New South Wales and claimed it for England. Similarly, he claimed New Zealand for Emgalnd. Expansion of the British Empire in this way helped increase not only the size of the Empire, but its strength, and Britain's strategic position in the Pacific, and in the world.
Because australia is quite a new country it is very multi-cultural. The original people of australia are the aboriginals and since captain cook discovered it people from all of the globe have settled here. As there can and has been a lot of racism in australia this song was written to unite everyone in australia. There is no such thing as the typical australian as most of our families havent been settled here for more than 300 years. The aboriginals have been treated horribly since captain cook and songs like these are peoples way of trying to mend these horrible pasts and move forward together
Captain Cook did not live in Australia at any time. He was the first to chart the eastern coast, in 1770, long before European settlement in Australia. A reproduction of Cook's cottage is situated in Melbourne, Victoria, but he did not live there.

Captain James Cook is famous for his expeditions around the world, notabbly down to Australia, the "Land Down Under".
