Ponyboy lost his parents, as we all know, but he had to move on not only to heal but to get on with the rest of his life. Darry told Ponyboy that because Pony has to overcome losing someone close to him again, but Ponyboy was not doing that.
In contrast to this close loving relationship with Sodapop is Ponyboy's volatile relationship with his oldest brother, Darry. Pony and Darry are always at odds. Darry gets frustrated because Ponyboy "never thinks" and is always doing things that put the family's living arrangements at risk. Darry is the "father figure" since the death of the boy's parents. If they get into trouble the state agency will separate them. Darry is working two jobs to try to keep the family together and is hard on Ponyboy because he has to be. It isn't until the end of the novel that Ponyboy grows up enough to realize that Darry and he may not ever be close, but Darry really does love him.
Darry is upset with Ponyboy because he had accidently fell asleep with Johnny at the drive in. Ponyboy realized it was late and has to go home while he left Johnny there. Ponyboy had went home to Darry who was yelling at him because he was worried. Darry let it get the best of him so he hit Ponyboy. Ponyboy had never been hit before so he didn't know what to do, but run away with Johnny. After they run away Darry realizes he did wrong.
Ponyboy and Darry always were disagreeing on things Pony did wrong and Ponyboy and Sodapop got a long because the get eachother.
Ponyboy cries in front of Johnny because Darry slapped him, and Ponyboy has never been slapped.
It is speculated that he has a crush on Cherry Valance, but he has no serious romance in the book.

Ponyboy thought that Darry was harsh, cold and mean to Ponyboy and he thought he never liked him. when he saw him at the hospital, Darry said "i thought we lost you like we did mom and dad". So to answer the question, Ponyboy relised that Darry acctually does like him as a brother and even though they dont understand each other they love each other and don't want to lose eachother
the worst part in the outsiders was when Darry hit Ponyboy and he ran away. Ponyboy was very upset and he didn't know what to think. Darry was upset too because he never hit Ponyboy. Darrydidn't mean to hit him he just got carried away.
I put--- Ponyboy feels stupid and he is ashamed that all his life he thought Darry didn't care for him but really Darry was giving his all into raising the boys (Ponyboy & Sodapop.)
If you are asking about the time Darry reacted when Ponyboy came home after falling asleep in the empty lot. Then your answer is that Darry acted out of fear and anger. He shoved Ponyboy, thus making Ponyboy flee. If you are asking about the time he came home after the rumble and from the hospital. Then Darry acted out in concern because he saw from Ponyboy's expression that something bad had happened.
Darry doesn't have a dream mentioned in the outsiders, but Pony does. Pony can never remember his nightmares.
In the Outsiders, Darrel is described as Ponyboy's older brother. Darrel is usually called 'Darry' by his brothers (Ponyboy and Sodapop) and the other Greasers. Darry is in a gang called the 'Greasers' who fight with the gang on the west side of town called the 'Socs'. The Greasers live on the east side of town, and Darry is one of the toughest or 'tuffest' Greasers. *I hope that answers your question. Basically, Darry is Ponyboy's older brother. (Ponyboy is the main character who's writing the story in his journal). Thanks for reading this!*
