They used a combination of herbs and oils. First they would remove the vital organs from the body and stuff it with herbs, Then they would put an oil all over the body and finally wrap the body in linen strips several times with good luck charms between the strips. This process took 30 days.

A mummy is a human or animal, whose skin and organs have been preserved by either intentional or incidental exposure to chemicals, extreme cold (ice mummies), very low humidity, or lack of air when bodies are submerged in bogs, so that the recovered body will not decay further if kept in cool and dry conditions.

An embalming process called mummification. Much of the process was based on naturally formed desert mummies that had been preserved by desiccation of the body by the dry desert air. However the Egyptians accelerated the process by removing all of the organs (e.g. brain, heart, liver, intestines) and placing the ones considered important in separate jars, other organs (e.g. brain) were just discarded as they served no known function. Once the body was prepared the body cavities were packed with linen and fragrant materials like frankincense and myrrh and then the body was completely wrapped in linen. Salt was packed around the body to accelerate the desiccation process, then removed so it would not damage the finished mummie.
