All British Elizabeth II decimal coins look pretty much the same from 1968 to 1982.
The larger 5, 10 and 50 Pence coins are no longer in circulation and have been demonetised. They have little or no value.
The Half New Penny coins are no longer in circulation and have been demonetised. They have little or no value.
Apart from those coins, most British decimal coins are still potentially in circulation so, unless they are part of a Proof or Uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or Uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they are worth whatever is inscribed on them.

The US Mint did not issue any silver coins of any kind in 1980. If you have silver coins dated 1980, they are not US coins.
All proof coins minted since 1980 are worth more than face value. Most error coins which are worth more than face value.

The only dollar coins issued in 1980 were made of cupro-nickel, not silver. They're only worth face value.
If you're referring to a U.S. cent, the answer is that it isn't worth anything special. There are almost as many rumors and stories about coins' values as there are about health insurance reform, and most of them are equally "true" ... i.e. false.
