Miguel Hidalgo was a priest as well as one of the leaders in Mexico's fight for independence. His father was Don Cristobal Hidalgo y Costilla.
Father Hidalgo rallied the Mexican people with his "Cry of Dolores" on 9/16/1810. On this day, he urged Mexicans to rise and overthrow the Spanish. He led the independent forces for 1 year before being caught.
