They were men he picked up the night they were killed.
Gacy was partial to manual strangulation.
I could find no information that Gacy had ever been to Texas. As far as anyone knows his victims where from Michigan.
Gacy is buried in Maryhill Cemetery, Niles, Cook County, IL. Some of Gacy's artwork had been sold to private citizens* with the intention of donating the proceeds to victims families. The project caused such a public outcry that the idea was scrapped and there is now a law prohibiting killers from benefiting financially from their crimes. *Actor Johnny Depp somehow acquired a Gacy painting, his intention was to donate the proceeds to families of Gacy's victims. He quickly disposed of the painting.
John Wayne Gacy is famous being an American serial killer and rapist. John Wayne Gacy buried 26 of his victims in the crawl space of his home in Norwood Park, Illinois.
I found a few on the below website:
Gacy would make contact with his victim, many times promising a job at his construction company. The lure of the opportunity to earn money was the downfall of many of Gacy's victims. Once Gacy picked a victim he would take them to his home, usually ply them with alcohol and strangle and rape them.
The main thrust of the investigation into the crimes of JW Gacy was the forensic anthropology. The skulls of his victims were studied and some reconstructed by a scupltress.

Gordon Northcott was one. John Wayne Gacy another.
No. Gacy acted alone but then serial killers usually do. Of course there are always the exceptions (LA's Hillside Stranglers) but the general rule is a lone male and Gacy gets all the credit. Most of his victims, which were boys and young men, were at one time emplyees of his construction company. He would offer them a good job making good money, for most, too good to resist. After awhile it must have seemed strange to people that many of his young employees seemed to go missing. They just didn't show up for work. Gacy bluffed his way through at first but finally it seemed nobody should go through employees like Gacy did. About this time, there was the horrible smell to explain away also. It all got to be too much of a coincendence and eventually the police came knocking. The rest is history.
Gacy fell under suspicion when young men began to disappear. Gacy was the common denominator which led to his being surveilled and finally arrested. Many of the boys and young men had either worked or inquired about work at Gacy's contruction business.
