As legend has it, an American traveler who was on his way through Burma came across a poor farmer. He had a daughter, her name was Pogo. Pogo was quite religious and wanted to go to the church every day to pray but as she had no shoes to wear for the long walk full of mud and rocks she couldn't go. The poor farmer built a jumping stick for pogo to make her way to and from the church, she was able to jump over the rocks and mud and the journey became a normal routine. When the traveler arrived home in America he designed one of his own but with a spring in it to give it more bounce and he patented it in 1919.
