No, not really. His father was VA gentry and became fairly well off, but Washington knew that he would never inherit from his father. The law was that the older brother would inherit any land/wealth and Washington was a second son. Washington always felt that status and during the French and Indian War as a young British officer he would not admit he didn't know/read French when he signed a document admitting guilt to the death of a French diplomat he was escorting. All educated men of his time knew French. His marriage to Martha most likely gave him the life and status he wanted. She was a wealthy widow with 2 children and along with the start of the Revolution his gained prominence that lead to the Presidency.
