They killed a lot of them, many were shot or starved, but the thing that killed most of the prisoners was the death marches that the prisoners were forced to undertake. This involved the prisoners, who were already worn out and undernourished, to walk hundreds of miles in extremely cold weather, without any protection or warm clothes, and millions of prisoners died that way.
