Habakkuk wanted to know why God was using a very sinful people to punish Judah for their sins.

He found out that God would also punish the other nation in due time, but the time of Judah's punishment had come.

God has the sovereign right to do this - for the Most High rules in the kingdoms of men and gives them to whoever he will (see the Book of Daniel).

Judgement is God's strange work - i.e. he doesn't find great pleasure in it. Judah and the Jewish nation as a whole constantly turned from the revelation of God and lived in sin and darkness - they chose darkness rather than light.

God is going to judge this world at the appointed time. it is important that we have had our sins forgive by God's Son the Lord Jesus if we ever are to be clear in that judgment.

The Lord Jesus Christ, in love to us, died on a cross for our sins, endured the penalty for us, so that we might go free. He then rose in triumph over death.

if we realise that we are sinners and accept God's record about his Son, trusting Him as our Saviour we will never come into judgment.

Johns Gospel chapter 5 verse 24 - the Lord said "He who hears My word, and believes Him that sent Me, has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but is past from death unto life"

How is habakkuk related to advent?

Habakkuk is a book about waiting, closely aligned with the waiting spirit of Advent. Habakkuk is waiting for deliverance from the Babylonian Empire, and concerned that God will not bring such deliverance. In many ways, Habakkuk's concerns echo the concerns of the people that the promised hero, or Messiah, will not come. God's response to Habakkuk is that of hopeful waiting, and Habakkuk ends by praising God. The praise offered by Habakkuk is a testimony to how we live in Advent. Although we wait for the return of Jesus and get discouraged with how awful the world can get, nevertheless God is active and working and worthy of our praise. Hopefully that helps.

How did people react to prophet habbukkuk's message?

What is faith? Why does God allow people to suffer? Why does God not punish the wicked immediately? About 605 B.C. God called a sensitive man to show His people God's purposes as the wicked Babylonians gained control of the world and made demands on Judah. Habakkuk used dialog with God and a hymn from the temple to show what faith is, why God would use such a wicked people as Babylon, and why God would let his people suffer. Habakkuk shows: a prophet can be perplexed at God's rule of history. God wants persistent commitment to and trust in him; and a psalm of confidence expresses faith in tumultuous times. Habakkuk is a call to faith for people who see no hope.

Did the prophecy of Habakkuk come true?

The Prophet Habakkuk was told that God had chosen Babylon to punish His rebellious Judah. Habakkuk had to live through that period which happened in 3 waves starting in 604 BC, 597, and ending 586 BC.Yet, all prophecy has a message for every age. Paul even quotes from Habakkuk in Hebrews 10. Today, Judah or nicknamed Jews, live in the modern nation-state Israel.
