The Battle of Guinegate or Battle of the Spurs, in 1513 was the only battle Henry VIII actually physically fought. As part of the Holy League under the on-going Italian Wars, English and Imperial troops under Henry VIII and Maximilian I surprised and routed a body of French cavalry under Jacques de La Palice.

The battle in Gascony in 1512 was not a win for Henry VIII. Most of his troops died from disease during this battle and the remaining troops retreated for home.
Henry VIII was a bright spark, and a most clever scholar.
In 1509, Henry VIII succeeded his father to the throne. Henry did not have the same feel for Wales that his father had. Henry VII had a Welsh dragon and a wolfhound on his heraldic insignia. Henry VIII dropped the wolfhound and replaced it with a lion, thus making the royal insignia less Welsh.
