Why did you decide to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki during world war 2?

US bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki because they wanted to convince Japan to surrender fromg WW2. Also because during the war, Japan wasnt affected a lot compared to other places that joined the war. are you serious? I'm sure the Japanese people of the major industrial cities tend to disagree with this they were firebombed for months, Tokyo and Osaka were ashbowls. the real reason Nagasaki was bombed was because it was overcast in Kokura the original target. in actual fact, the Japanese, through the soviet union, tried to conditionally surrender in June 1945, a full 2 months before the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. the condition they wanted was that the emperor was to remain head of state and to retain its home islands. America flatly refused the offer and instead chose to continue the war a further two months, until japan unconditionally surrendered. an interesting footnote should be that upon signing the unconditional surrender japan was allowed to retain its emperor and retain its home islands.

How do the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki differ from the Holocaust and what were there movtives?

If you study history, you could see that those episodes were contrary on their terms. The inflicted punishment of the Jews, had no reason. On the other side, Japan gave enough reason to make the US drop the bomb. ________________________ One would normally say that in war there is no reason to murder civillians. They were both state sponsored acts of terrorism. The Nazis wanted to create an 'ideal' society and the Americans wanted to show the Soviet Union that they were a world power.

Was the hiroshima bombing an act of revenge?

Some people are against those bombings and some applaud the bombings as a lesson taught to the Japanese. we could say it was an act of revenge. But in the other hand, invading the mother land, the Americans would face the military and the civilians as well.

What can you say about Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

At the end of World War II, few questioned Truman's decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Most Americans accepted the obvious reasoning: the atomic bombings brought the war to a more timely end. They did not have a problem with over one hundred thousand of the enemy being killed. After all, the Japanese attacked America, and not the other way around. In later years, however, many have begun to question the conventional wisdom of "Truman was saving lives," putting forth theories of their own. However, when one examines the issue with great attention to the results of the atomic bombings and compares these results with possible alternatives to using said bombs, the line between truth and fiction begins to clear. Truman's decision to use the atomic bomb on Japan was for the purpose of saving lives and ending the war quickly in order to prevent a disastrous land invasion.

Why didn't Japan want to surrender?

It depends on what your talking about. If your asking why they didn't surrender after the first atomic bomb, the answer is that America didn't give them time. They dropped the first bomb and then the second within days of the first.

Was the use of the Atom Bomb in Hiroshima during World War 2 a terrorist act?

The role of the bombings in Japan's surrender and the U.S.'s ethical justification for them remains the subject of scholarly and popular debate. The dropping of the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused the Japanese to surrender. if they had not been dropped an invasion of the Japanese homeland would have been necessary to defeat the Japanese. That would have resulted in a number of deaths estimated for allies between 100,000 and 1,000,000 and up to 10,000,000 for the Japanese. Both the atomic bombings resulted in less than 250,000 deaths. How many lives were saved by Trumans decision are unknowable. Now what would you say if Truman, instead of ending the war as quickly as possible, let it go on for several months longer, killing hundreds of thousands of Americans and millions of Japanese, when he had the chance to end it in two quick blows.
