That he should be 'heir of the world' (Romans 4.13)
The promise of the New Covenant has been given to the remnant of the Jewish nation. For all intents and purposes the New Covenant has been received by the believers in Jesus Christ.
The lineage of Esau is irrelevant to God's promise to Abraham, the promise will be fulfilled by Jesus Christ, who is of the lineage of Jacob, Esau's twin brother.
covenant
Jesus Christ fulfills the covenant that God made with humanity. Acts 3:25 says "Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed." The seed of Abraham is Jesus. Galatians 3:17 says that the covenant was confirmed before God in Christ. Hebrews Chapter 8 says a lot about God's covenant. Hebrews 12:24 says that Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant. Hebrews 13:20 mentions the covenant.
According to the Puritan Covenants the Covenant of Graceis God's promise to send his Spirit to the elect in order that they believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God.see related link below
If you believe that Jesus Christ is God, then yes He is Jehovah.
Abraham
Napoleon and Abraham Lincoln were great figures in history, but Jesus Christ created them and made them great.
The "Promised Land" refers to the "land" that God promised to Abraham and his descendants, because:"...that Abraham obeyed My voice, and kept My charge, My Commandments, My statutes, and My laws." (Gen.26:5)The New Testament summarizes this "Promised Land" as being THE EARTH!Ultimately to be fulfilled with the establishment of theKingdom of God on earth by Jesus Christ... who was and is the God of the Old Testament who made the Promise to "faithful" Abraham [see John 1:3]."For the PROMISE, that HE SHOULD BE THE HEIR OF THE WORLD, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the Righteousness of Faith." (Rom.4:13)"Know ye therefore that they which are of Faith, the same are the children of Abraham." (Gal.3:7)"And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and Heirs ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE." (verse 29)That's what the "Promised Land" is. It's the Promise of the coming Kingdom of God to be established on earth by Abraham's God, Jesus Christ... along with all of Abraham's "Faithful" children -- the Sons of God.That's one reason why Jesus came "in the flesh"... to "confirm" the promises of the "Salvation of all the families of the earth; and the Kingdom.""...Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision [the Jews] for the Truth of God, to CONFIRM THE PROMISESmade unto the fathers [Abraham, Isaac and Jacob]..." (Rom.15:8)."...ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the Kingdom of God..." (Luke 13:28).The EARTH is the LAND that was PROMISED to Faithful Abraham.Jesus Christ began the fulfillment of the Promise through His mortal death and shedding of His Divine Blood... and shall complete the Promise when the Eternally Living Christ returns to establish the Kingdom on earth -- the Land Promised to Abraham and his children.
Land, Wealth, and a great nation (i.e. many, many children.)God told Abraham that in his words the world would be blessed. Abraham has a covenant relationship with God.Answer:There are two covenants which God made with Abraham (Genesis ch.15 and Genesis ch.17).1) In Genesis ch.15, the Covenant Between the Parts:a) God informs Abraham of future events (the Egyptian exile)b) God promises the land of Canaan (Israel) to Abraham's descendantsc) The covenant is finalized through a demonstration of God's presence (see Genesis 15:7-9 and 15:17).2) In Genesis ch.17, the covenant of circumcision:a) The promises of many descendants (17:2,3) and of inheriting the land of Canaan are repeated (17:8), but the main thing in this covenant is the promise that God will be the God of Abraham (17:7, 17:8).b) God promises that Abraham and Sarah will have a son (17:15-16), whom they will name Isaac (17:19) and who will be the continuation of God's covenant with Abraham (17:21).c) The covenant itself is manifested through circumcision, for Abraham and his descendants (17:10).
Abraham made a covenant with God; and God swore also to Isaac and Jacob that He would uphold the covenant of Abraham with them too. For Joseph, no such statement or covenant was made. The earlier covenant applied to Joseph and all of his brothers equally and was not reiterated until the time of Moses.See also the Related Links.Link: The covenantLink: Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
Abram became known as Abraham when he was 99 years old and God reaffirmed his promise that his offspring would become many. (Genesis 17:5) 5 And your name will not be called A′bram anymore, and your name must become Abraham, because a father of a crowd of nations I will make you. But there was a lot more in this covenant God made with him. Other components were: God would give his descendants the land of Ur. The promise would be extended through Isaac, and Jacob, and lead to Jesus Christ It was fulfilled in Jesus as the Messiah (by which all nations would be blessed) Included a provision for circumcision (physical sign of the covenant relationship) See attached link for more information on Bible Covenants
