ANSWER: Jesus, the Son of God came to earth as a human being to pay the penalty for our (mankind's) sin. Jesus being the Son of God was sinless and He lived His life on earth as a human being remaining sinless. This sinless state had to be a requirement in order to be the perfect sacrifice. He went to the cross taking all of our sin upon Himself and died, was buried, and on the third day God resurrected Him from the grave proving that He, God, accepted Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.
