What did Jesus mean when He told Peter ''to forgive seventy-seven times''?

The basic gist of it was that we shouldn't keep score. We should not keep score and should forgive every time someone offends us. Just as God forgives us when we sin against Him, even when we keep committing the same sin over and over.
