In John 3:16 The Bible says "For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
In John 6:38-40, Jesus says, " For I have come from down from Heaven not to do my will but to do the will of the Him who sent me. And this is the will of Him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that He has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the day."
Jesus Christ came to the world to be THE Way to Heaven. He knew what God - His Father in Heaven -- sent Him to do... to be given over to be put to death to be the sacrifice for us. God raised Him from the dead, and now we have the opportunity (and free choice!) to spend eternity in Heaven! Was is glamorous of pain free? NO WAY! He did it out of love... As a parent would give their life for their child... God did for us.
He died so that mankind would be redeemed. Adam and Eve sinned while in the Garden Of Eden and God tells us that the wages of sin is death. Christ died a horrible death so that we have a chance for eternal life.
