Major John Andre, was the special messenger for General Benedict Arnold. Andre, was caught while on his way to take secret papers to British officials. The papers contained the plans of Arnold betraying America, and giving control of West Point and the related forts on the Hudson River to the British.

Benedict Arnold was able to escape before being captured, and would return to England.

Major John Andre, was placed on trial for treason by General George Washington. Andre was convicted and hanged, and his body was sent to New York.

It lies today in the British hall of heroes, Westminster Abbey, London.
