John Augustus Roebling was an American civil engineer who was born in Germany but later moved to New York. He has become most famous for his designs of wire rope suspension bridges, his most famous being the design of the Brooklyn Bridge.
John Augustus Sutter was born in Baden, Germany. His parents were Johann Jakob Suter, II and Christina Wilhelmina Sutter.
John Augustus was a pioneer and businessman. He owned Sutter's Fort (previously a farm, now a historical park), and Sutter's Mill (a sawmill). The discovery of gold on his land led to the California Gold Rush.
